More than a number: The scale of youth homelessness in the UK

This report examines youth homelessness in the UK. According to research, an estimated 86,000 young people approached their local authorities for help as they were homeless or at risk of homelessness in the UK in 2016/17.

The majority (58%) of young people presenting as homeless or at risk of homelessness in England were not recorded as having received positive actions leading to their homelessness being successfully prevented or dealt with. In England, only 1 in 10 of these young people were accepted as statutorily homeless. Over half of homeless young people left their last settled base because their parents, other relatives, or friends were no longer willing got accommodate them in England in 2016/17.

This report also delves into the implications of legislation, such as the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, on data and youth homelessness.
