Other Calls to Action

What have other housing/homelessness campaigns asked for?

There are a number of organizations and groups that have created their own calls for action. Many of them reflect the demands of the State of Homelessness reports.

Canadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA)

The Canadian Housing and Renewal Association is a national housing body focused on four key pillars: promoting affordable housing, ending homelessness, renewing our communities and supporting a sustainable housing profession.

They are playing a leading role in the Housing For All Network. This includes a quick video summarizing the key issues and a social media campaign using the hashtag #housing4all.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM)

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities is a national body made up of elected politicians and officials from Canadian municipalities. Housing has long been an important issue for them.

FCM recently developed a National Forum on Housing and the Economy (NFHE) made up of industry and professional associations, national not-for-profits and business groups. The goal is to encourage investment in the housing sector to address issues of affordable housing and homelessness.

Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH)

The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness is a national movement to end homelessness in Canada. They are the lead organization in the 20,000 Homes campaign, organizers of the National Conference on Ending Homelessness and promote the use of 10 Year Plans to End Homelessness.

Canadian Association of Community Health Centres (CACHC)

The CACHC has developed an online petition about the need for an affordable housing strategy. It is delivered to the leaders of the Conservatives, Liberals, NDP and Greens.

Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario (ACTO)

The Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario (ACTO) sent the four major federal parties a questionnaire about what they will do about housing if elected. A full comprehensive report card is available from ACTO including rating of responses and detailed answers.
