Substance Use & Addictive Behaviors

Addiction in its various forms is highly prevalent among people experiencing homelessness, particularly those experiencing chronic homelessness. Addiction can look like a lot of different behaviors: drinking, taking drugs, and gambling are among the most prevalent. 

However, addiction is not always a cause of homelessness; it can also be a form of escapism, or act as a coping mechanism for those dealing with the difficulties of life on the street.
